Roger Kizik

May 2nd – June 3rd, 2012

Roger Kizik's art works are immediately recognizable as his - regardless of medium, size or subject matter. He paints with surety, sense of humor, and imagination. Kizik’s brightly colored images boldly careen in and out of representation and abstraction, resulting in exuberant collisions of texture and form. Kizik began his education in the US Navy, before receiving his BFA at the Massachusetts College of Art in 1972. A fascination with marine technologies along with a seafarer's sense of adventure is clearly palpable in his work. Kizik experiments with mixed media, resulting in layered and textured surfaces, which are as stimulating as the imagery he creates.

"A strong and exhilarating exhibition by painter Roger Kizik. His paintings are brash, bold, and thickly studded with references to the sea and the man-made, as well as literature and art history, and lush with gestures born of equal parts aesthete and athlete"
