Alex Kanevsky was born in Russia in 1963. He studied mathematics at Vilnius University in Lithuania before coming to the United States. After his arrival to Philadelphia in 1983 he worked as a Russian translator, illustrator at the Psychiatric Nursing Magazine and drew pictures for the telephone book advertisements. After attending PAFA (1989-93) and winning a Pew Fellowship (1997) he devoted himself to painting full time. Alex Kanevsky lives and works in Philadelphia. He has exhibited his work in shows in the United States, Canada, Italy, UK and Ireland. He teaches a painting seminar at PAFA.

Hollis Heichemer was born in Binghamton, New York in 1963 and now currently lives and works in Philadelphia, PA and works part of the year in New Hampshire. She received her BS from the Ohio University and her MA at Seton Hall University. Her abstract oil paintings can be interpreted as depicting the “visual experience itself.” With a title of “Intimate Associations,” her work not only becomes a personal representation of what she is trying to achieve but also a representation of the viewer’s own associations. Her work evolves over time, both in process and viewing; layers of tones laid down with a process of looking and relooking. “The nature of our mind, imagination, and the question of ‘what is reality’ are subjects which interests me,” she states. “My work explores the edge where beauty and tragedy meet.” Heichemer has exhibited nationally and internationally in places such as California, New York, Italy, and Ireland.
