Biography

Joan McKenzie, a native New Englander, studied with Bernard Chaet, Marjorie Portnoy, and Wolf Kahn at the Vermont Studio School Johnston, VT and focused on painting in oil, specializing in regional landscapes. Joan holds a BA from the University of VT and a MA from the Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationale, Geneva Switzerland.  She is a founding member of the Art League of R.I., an artist member of the Providence Art Club, member of the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, and the Newport Art Museum

I am a landscape painter who tends to work in small formats. I paint in the luminist tradition of John LaFarge and the early American Impressionists.
