The UMass Dartmouth Kekeli West African Drum and Dance Ensemble will celebrate the opening of a special exhibit by their peers in the Sculpture Department. The Kekeli ensemble studies the drumming, dance, and performance of West Africa at UMass Dartmouth. each May, the ensemble travels to the Volta Region of Ghana, West Africa to study with master performers. Any donations will go towards supporting this unique educational opportunity for our local university students.
We are celebrating the opening of a special exhibit of outdoor works by the UMass MFA Sculpture Candidates. The MFA Students and professors have installed a temporary sculpture garden on our front meadow and along the pathways through the woods. This exhibit will be available to see from October 16 through November 30th. Celebrate their hard work, and view their thoughtful sculptural installations with us on Sunday.
This will also be a great opportunity to view our current exhibit of digital art dating 1954 - present, highlighting the works of Leslie Thornton and Anne Morgan Spalter:
A special presentation by the Food Myth Busters at foodmyths.org, will screen a new video and discuss the myth of choice when it comes to fast food. FoodMyths.org aims to increase awareness about the food we eat, our impact on our global food culture, and the options we may not know we have to be healthier and more conscious consumers.
An edible mask contest - this spring, our natural hat contest made such a splash- we are celebrating the fall harvest and the spirit of Halloween with an edible mask contest. Masks can be made out of anything edible (glue, string, and inedible supports are allowed) the winner will receive a special prize.
