Jacqueline Ott sharing her work with students from Renaissance School, located in New Bedford, MA. -at Dedee Shattuck Gallery
This summer, Dedee Shattuck Gallery will host children’s art classes on the grounds and inside our new sustainable artist studio. Participants will learn various ways to combine nature and art through their creativity and be introduced to fundamental elements of the artistic process.
We invite youth artists, ages 9-14, to join us for seven weeks of art and theatre classes exploring the relationship between art and the environment.
For centuries, nature has been a powerful inspiration for artists. Creating works of art in response to the environment allows us to experience and appreciate the outdoors in a new way. Today, with concerns of climate change and sustainability, it is all the more important to develop a strong relationship with the earth and pay homage to it in one of the best ways possible- through art!
Along side Mary Wayss, the Summer Arts Coordinator, campers will be experimenting with different forms of art;
Sculpture: Andy Goldsworthy style sculpture (shells, flowers, leaves, stones, and branches) to build additional style sculptures.mn
Drawing: Illustration of Birds, leaf drawing, watercolor leaf drawings, drawings of acorns, leaves, pine cones, and mushrooms.
Painting: Natural Paint Brushes and Pigments Landscape drawing or painting. Watercolor, acrylic, oil paints.
Printmaking:with natural materials. Types of printing: Collagraph printing, leaf printing, block printing and sun prints.
Explorer Art: Surrounded by nature, students will feel inspired as they walk along the sculpture trails in the Shattuck Gallery woods.
